CSS Reboot
design : mid
The direction of 4-Ever has changed so redesigning to suit the new purpose meant I had to change the look quite radically. So, for the benefit of all you extra visitors that CSS Reboot apparently brings (one more would be a bonus ;-) here are the main features:
I have used Mike Purvis’s fixed/fluid Jello Mould Piefecta for the layout because it allows a maximum as well as a minimum width for the content, all done with CSS. Both fixed and fluid layouts have their problems so for my purposes Jello Mould was perfect! Well done, Mike, you are a genius!
I decided on a three-column layout for harmony and balance and also to allow space for lighter, brighter things. The grim reminders of the dangers of the polluted mind in version 1 of 4-Ever are replaced with images of our beautiful planet and things that last '4-ever' such as the sun, stars and water. This is because the main purpose has shifted from campaigning against slavery to a focus on hope and inspiration.
A main priority was easy reading which is shown in the colours and font choices (check out those 16 buttons). To remove distractions whilst reading, the main menu comes after the content, instead of alongside as is usual, except for the front page. I have inhabited the front page sidebars with images for the sake of impact but have put them down the page a bit, so the focus is primarily on the latest content.
The small images expand on hover - small to reduce distraction - expanded to aid readability. Please let me know if there are problems with these. It has not been tested on a Mac or old Internet Explorers. Another neat feature I think are the stretchy images that fill the space when you widen or narrow your browser window. Explore and enjoy and then move on to the other 900+ css rebooters!

Thanks for leaving a note at my website, Peter! I get really happy everytime someone comments there. :-)
By the way, 4-ever.org got an insta-vote from me when Alexandra mentioned it as TXP-driven :-), but after a closer look at the website I loved it. Beautiful, just beautiful content, and the design fits it perfectly. Great job! I’m sure your articles will help many people who got lost in life.
Thank you very much for that glowing comment, Vladimir, and congratulations on being the first person to leave a comment on 4-Ever, and that includes the last version! I will be visiting your site again because it really is beautiful and I like the way you write. Cheers!
Thanks for the comment on my site. I love your design as well. It is truly evident that you’ve spent a lot of time on it.
Thanks Nima, it’s amazing how long things take, isn’t it? It took me about 3 months. But it’s very satisfying when it is all done. I have a few things to do yet, such as adding images to the long articles. When I’ve done that, there’ll be something else no doubt;-) I am amazed when I read some people’s comments that they finished their site in a couple of days!
